  Why do humans suffer

  while talking with my wife, it occurred to me that the jws idea of why humans suffer doesnt make sense.

  the idea is that humans suffer so as to prove beyond the shadow of a doubt that they cannot rule themselves.. now, the bible states that satan is the ruler of this world.

  so just how letting time pass by supposed to answer the question about the humans ability to govern themselves when they dont govern themselves?

  i like to collect admirable quotes from watchtower publications that i can then use back on jws to demonstrate their double standards.

  for example, this appeared in the awake!, august 22, 1984, page 28;.

  the catholic church occupies a very significant position in the world and claims to be the way of salvation for hundreds of millions of people.

  Also in "Keep Yourself in God's Love" Chap. 14, para. 9:

  "9 Such teaching places an important obligation on parents. The apostle Paul asked: “Do you, however, the one teaching someone else, not teach yourself? You, the one preaching ‘Do not steal,’ do you steal?” (Romans 2:21) Some parents confuse their children by teaching about honesty while acting dishonestly themselves.   So, "lying is lying," except when it's Watchtower that's teaching the lying untruths.

  The 2/1/2007 was a particularly offensive, and eye-opening series of articles on truth and lying. It was worded in such a deceptive way to imply that lies are bad, but untruths can be good.

  The pages were filled with barf-worthy statements. In this old thread, several of us had it out with a couple of apologists...

  Even the first sentence alone doesn't make sense...

  "Jehovah will use the Kingdom to unify his family in heaven and on earth."

  So WT and the JWs haven't been working in harmony the angels? Does this mean that the heavenly hosts and the earthly borganization are not currently unified? ... Or is this talking about some kinda future earthly and heavenly unity where the angels come down to earth so they can marry all those poor, lonely, JW sisters.

  The Gall Of WT To Give This Advice To Pioneers:

  this past week's wt study lesson was entitled: 'pioneering strengthens our relationship with god'.. under the subheading 'remaining in the full-time service' in par 14 the wt has the nerve to give this admonition to pioneers: .

  'desiring to learn from jesus' example, a pioneer does well to keep in mind that the more material things he has, the more he will have to maintain , repair, or replace.'.

  i don't think the gb or anyone in the writing department has the freedom to speak on giving adivce on the matter of 'material things' given the fact that wt has close to a billion dollars in real estate and loads of money in various bank accounts; given the fact that gb is currently building themselves new living quarters with who knows what sort of comforts and other amenities.

  When I was in bethel I was shocked to learn that many of those "old-timers" at bethel were receiving social security checks. They were living large off of their bethel seniority and off money coming from "Satan's system" that they never paid into.

  i already knew a little about it like the common name, etc., but what i found amazed me.. .

  "Did the smell get you high Billy??"

  No. They have a very unique stink about them, particularly on hot, humid days when there was no breeze. We'd cut... then run. I wouldn't think the smell would create a high. We also called them Loco Weeds. The seeds had a toxin that would make you crazy. I never messed with them.

  what might the wts do to counteract growth stagnation and attrition?.

  of course they could ditch certain teachings and practices such as blood, shunning and homophobia.. how about if they closed the kingdom hall network (all proceeds back to mothership) and built out more regional mega-churches?

  Sell off all the KHs and turn JW.org into a completely online church.

  Ditch most all their teachings in favor of a new core doctrine... "salvation through donation."
